Many people think about genres in a unique manner with a variety of meanings. When a reader interprets a genre, it depends on how the author conveys their message and their meaning. Fania Davis and Gloria Anzaldúa addresses historical events in their essays to convey a message to her audience. Although both writers have different ways to make their essays effective, they use the rhetorical appeals, ethos, pathos, and logos, to shape their audience's opinion. Fania E.
